TECHNOPARC BROMONT WELCOMES A CENTRE FOR INNOVATION IN MICROELECTRONICS UNDER THE KNOWLEDGE INFRASTRUCTURE PROGRAMME
Bromont, September 1, 2009 – The government of Canada and the Government of Quebec have announced a grant of $178 million to the University of Sherbrooke for the construction, in Bromont of a centre for innovation in the field of microelectronics.
« This important announcement, made in the presence of the Premier Jean Charest and the Minister of Public Works and Government Services, Christian Paradis, is the fruit of many years of continuing efforts to demonstrate the significance of the research and development that is done here in Technoparc Bromont » said Pauline Quinlan, Mayor and President of the Société de Développement économique de Bromont.
By investing in its infrastructures, the City of Bromont has demonstrated that it can welcome and support major development projects.
Mrs. Quinlan pointed out the leadership role of the University of Sherbrooke in the region, as well as the involvement and the role played by IBM and DALSA in the establishment of the centre for innovation in the field of microelectronics.
She also pointed out the significance of the interventions of Premier Charest and of the federal minister Christian Paradis who shared with Bromont the dream of this centre of high-tech innovation.
Technoparc Bromont has been, since 2008, the techno pole in microelectronics, new materials and renewable energy in Quebec. Technoparc Bromont (with its 70 million sq. ft. area) can be accessed from the Eastern Townships Autoroute (exit 74 of autoroute 10) and already hosts prestigious enterprises such as IBM Canada, Dalsa Semiconducteur, GE Aviation, AAER, Qualité-T-Tube, Spécialités Industrielles Canada, Quebecor World, Thomas & Betts, Unifix, and the Eastern Townships Regional Airport.
